Anna C. DiSalvo, 93
Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother
Anna C. DiSalvo passed away peacefully in her home on
November 3, 2025. Anna was born in Providence, R.I. in 1932
to the late Philip and Filomena Abbatomarco. She often
reminisced about her childhood home on Andem St., telling
stories about family, neighbors and friends.
Anna graduated from Classical High School in 1950 and
Rhode Island College in 1954, where she earned a degree in
education. From the time she was a little girl, she knew she
wanted to be a teacher. She taught elementary school in both RI
and CT before she turned her attention to full time home making and the parenting of her four children. She met her future husband, Carlo DiSalvo, at a servicemen’s dance sponsored by the local girls in Providence. They married in 1955, and, at the time of Carlo’s death, had been married for 64 years.
Upon moving to Central New York, Anna and Carlo lived on Onondaga Hill before moving to Skaneateles where she has resided for 49 years. Many people will remember Anna as the owner of the Calico Cat gift shop from 1981-1989. For many years, she bought and sold antiques at local shows and group shops, where she made many friends. She loved collecting Early American primitives and was thrilled when her home was featured in A Simple Life magazine. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and needlework, which she learned from her Ischian grandmother Colomba Impagliazzo.
She is predeceased by her sister Maria Aylward, many brothers and sister’s in-law, niece Mary Saulle and nephew Vincent Benfante.
She is survived by her children, Andrew DiSalvo, his wife Anita, Carol DiSalvo, her husband Jim, Catherine DiSalvo, Paul DiSalvo, her grandchildren, Lindsay, Cayla, Raven, Phoebe, Lucas, Julianna and her great-granddaughter, Riley. She is also survived by her brother, Philip Abbatomarco, sister- in-law, Patricia, brother, Francis Abbatomarco, sister-in-law, Arlene, sister-in-law, Emily DiSalvo, sister- in-law, Mary Gray, brother-in-law, James Aylward and many, many nieces and nephews.
Anna was funny. She liked to joke that she was in the same room as Frank Sinatra, leaving out the fact that the War Memorial was packed that night. She will be remembered for her generosity, her wit, her Labor Day parade meatballs, and, as one of her college friends called it, her “loveliest smile”. She taught us to see beauty in the world.
Thank you to our Academy Street and Jordan Street neighbors for their kindness. Special thanks to granddaughter Raven for her dedicated caregiving during Anna’s final years. Anna will be missed and loved always.
Calling hours will be held at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles on Saturday, November 22nd from 10 to 11 am, followed by a service at 11. All are welcome. Burial will be
private in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
