Constance L. Maloney, 88, of Skaneateles, died peacefully after a brief illness, with family at her side on September 17, 2024 at The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn, NY. The oldest of three children, Connie was born in Holyoke, MA in October 1935, to Alexander and Alice Cronin Rychlik. She spent her formative years in Western Massachusetts, living in Holyoke and spending time each summer with her family in the Berkshires.
After graduating from Holyoke High School, Connie studied textile design at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, where she met the love of her life, Martin Maloney, an industrial designer and native of Auburn, NY. In 1957, they married and started a family, living briefly in Orlando, Florida, and Western Massachusetts. In 1962, and with two children in tow, they relocated once again, to Skaneateles, NY, where they would settle down for the rest of their lives.
After her youngest child was born in 1967, Connie began a career as a graphic designer, working at the Skaneateles Penny Saver and later at Glundal Color in East Syracuse, NY until her retirement in 1996. She lent her design skills to local organizations in Skaneateles including the Jaycettes and the annual Skan-E-Antics talent show.
A New England native, Connie was an avid, lifelong Boston Red Sox fan who religiously watched the games nightly over the past 30+ years. She loved the New England coast, especially Cape Cod, and had a soft spot for English Springer Spaniels.
One of Connie’s many gifts were her legendary pies, which family and friends would inquire about prior to every holiday, and alter their plans accordingly. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and friend known for her soft spoken, calm and warm demeanor. Connie was predeceased by her husband, Martin in 1992. She is survived by her two siblings, Alice Askew of East Aurora, NY, Donald Rychlik (Mildred) of Holyoke, MA; her three children, Kevin Maloney (Yvonne) of Salisbury, NC, Lynn Andrews of Skaneateles, and Peter Maloney (Cara) of Skaneateles; Four grandchildren, Matthew Maloney of Warwick, RI, Thomas Andrews of Skaneateles, Alexander Andrews of Skaneateles, and Amanda Andrews of Jordan, NY, and her sister-in-law, Judy Maloney Bobbett of Skaneateles, along with several nieces and nephews.
