Elizabeth Marion Angyal, affectionately known as "Bette," peacefully departed on November 23 at The Commons in Auburn, New York. A cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, Bette will always be remembered for her kindness and love for all.
Born on June 9, 1935, in the hamlet of Emerson, she grew up as the sole daughter of Henry George and Mildred Smith and was the adored sister of her two brothers, William and George. Bette graduated from Weedsport High School in 1953 and subsequently obtained her certification as an Operating Room Nurse at Auburn Memorial Hospital. In 1957, she married John F. Searing, and together they were blessed with a daughter, Cindy Marie, and a son, Richard John. Tragically, her husband John, an Auburn City Firefighter, fell in the line of duty in March 1960.
In 1964, Bette found love again and remarried New York State Trooper John A. Angyal. Together, they constructed their home in Skaneateles across from Waterman School, welcomed a son, Joseph William, and raised their beautiful family. Her home held a special place in her heart, as it was a haven filled with laughter and love.
Bette is survived by her children Cindy Patterson (Greig) of North Woodstock, NH; Richard Searing (Candace) of Skaneateles; and Joseph (Stefania) of Arlington, VA; six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brothers.
A funeral service honoring the life of Bette will be held on November 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the church that she so loved, St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church. The burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bette’s name to St. Mary’s through their website, https://www.stmarysskaneateles.com.
