Joachim Walter Ennulat, 96, of Skaneateles, passed peacefully at Elderwood at Liverpool, NY on the morning of August 1st, 2025. “Jo” was born on April 21st, 1929 in Insterburg, a former city in Germany, to Walter Heinrich Ennulat and Martha Mukatis Ennulat.

He married Nancy Eudora Mains on August 4, 1957 in Germany. Jo immigrated to the United States where he and Nancy settled along Skaneateles Lake in Central New York. There they raised two sons, David Ennulat of Phillipston, MA and Sean Ennulat of Jordan, NY beside a menagerie of animals including goats, collies, cats, rabbits, and horses. Jo was a master machinist and loved to fabricate intricate devices.

He worked in The Physics Department of Syracuse University until retirement. He was actively involved in The Boy Scouts with Troop 61 of Niles, NY. While retired Jo and Nancy had a passion for exploring and sailed from The Finger Lakes to the Bahamas over one winter, while spending many summers on the lakes surrounding their home.

Jo is predeceased by his wife Nancy (Mains) Ennulat and brother Dieter Ennulat. He is survived by his sister Margit (Dieter) Kiehn of Hamburg, Germany; his two sons David (Laura Stacy), and Sean (Tam DeOrsey); his grandchildren by David, Nathan Ennulat, Melissa (Sean McNair) Ennulat, and Ashlee (Gavin Holmes) Ennulat; his grandchildren by Sean, Tase (Jeffrey) Lottermoser and Colin (Grace Dungey) Ennulat; his great-grandchildren Rosie Lottermoser, Miles Lottermoser and Amelia McNair; and Cynthia Kanik (formerly Ennulat).

A private celebration of life is planned.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. Losing parents is so difficult for us that remain behind and at the same time peaceful for them. Hugs, thoughts and prayers for you all!

My memories of Jo are of a kind, quiet man. I hope that fond memories are of some consolation to the family. I wish I could be there to be of support in person.

Dave, I’m so sorry about the loss of your Dad. I remember one Christmas during grad school when we were invited to come to Skaneateles to cut down a Christmas tree. That was an adventure! Your Dad had many gifts and an active mind that kept his curiosity and love of learning new things throughout his long life. We must never stop asking questions!
