Joyce A. Thomas, 92, of Skaneateles, New York, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025. Joyce will forever be remembered for her radiant positivity, warm smile, wit, and remarkable ability to turn even the simplest moments into cherished stories.

Born on March 15, 1933, in Albany, New York, to the late Calvin and Janet Ayers. Joyce was a sister of four brothers who affectionately nicknamed her ‘sissy.’ Joyce grew up in East Greenbush, where she graduated from Columbia High School before beginning her career in administration for Alcoa in Albany.

In her early twenties, Joyce met her beloved husband, Charles Thomas, at a parade in Lake George. They married in 1957 at Graham Airbase in Marianna, Florida, and soon embarked on a life of adventure, moving around the country as Charles served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Together, they raised four spirited children in Skaneateles, a chapter Joyce often recalled with humor, joy, and deep affection.

When her children grew older, Joyce earned her real estate license and worked enthusiastically for several years before channeling her creative talents into a new venture—Joyce Thomas Interiors. Never one to stop learning, she joined Toastmasters International, where her storytelling gift shined and she served proudly as Eastern Division Governor.

Joyce and Charles spent their early retirement years traveling and held a special fondness for Scotland and the coastal beauty of Positano, Italy. At home, Joyce found joy in life’s everyday rituals—playing piano, especially around Christmas; savoring her morning coffee while watching children walk to school across the street.

Joyce formed many treasured friendships at the Episcopal Church in Skaneateles, where she was grateful for the fellowship and support that enriched her life. Nancy, Bonnie, Cathy, and Emily are held closely to her heart.

Joyce is survived by her three children, Charles Thomas Jr. (Orisela), Robin Toia (Mike), James Thomas, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas, and daughter, Cathy Bitter.

A viewing to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home in Skaneateles. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lake View Cemetery.

I turned the corner and peered into the hospital room. "Are you Joyce?" I inquired. She replied "Yes, are you Bonnie?". "Yes", I said enthusiastically. "I am here to take you home!" "Well, thank goodness, I want to go home!" was Joyce's exclamation. And that is how our friendship began. She was a wonderfully grand woman and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to pick her up, take her home, and have her be a part of my life this past year. She was a confidant and although I helped her with things, she helped me more. God Blesses you dear Joyce.
