Judith O. Green

Judith O. Green, 86, of Skaneateles, NY, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, to join her Lord, with family by her side.

Judy was born in western Massachusetts to her parents Grace and Robert. She grew up on the family farm in the Berkshires. Rural living with limited neighbors sowed the seeds of her resourcefulness and creativity. Her childhood was spent with her best friends, her sisters and brother, where they were free to wander around the farm and have adventures. They had many animals, naming each one (like Sally Anne the Hereford and Atomic Bomb the Angus bull) and it was their job to feed them each morning before heading off to school. When old enough, Judy worked in the fields in the summer picking vegetables with her siblings where they often yelled at any passing planes to come rescue them. Judy acquired her love of traveling from her uncle who would take her, her siblings and grandmother traveling to places around the US. On Sundays her day was spent attending Church & Sunday School. After graduating from high school, she went to Boston to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education. During summers she worked at a youth camp in New Hampshire, where she met her future husband, Dave.  

Over the course of their 64 years of marriage, Judy and Dave lived in Alabama, Connecticut, and Upstate New York.  Judy began her career as an elementary school teacher, and they started a family a couple years later.  They had five children, as well as foster children at times.  Judy took time off to put her teaching skills to a real test by raising their children.  As the youngest started school, she resumed her teaching career, eventually settling in as a fourth-grade teacher as well as earning her Master’s degree in Education. Her summer breaks from teaching were punctuated by vacation Bible school, family get togethers, and family camping trips around the United States and Canada.

Retirement didn’t mean the end of Judy’s career, but it was a continuation of her desire to learn, teach, and help others. Judy and Dave did volunteer missions work with students in Morocco, South Korea, Taiwan, and Nicaragua. They also travelled extensively, integrating time with family (especially the grandchildren) overseas and at home, exploring new places and often hiking, backpacking and camping. Judy also spent time on hobbies she loved – researching genealogies, reading, quilting, photography, her passion for cooking and her artful baking creations such as custom decorated cakes to mark occasions to an extraordinary selection of handmade pies and cookies for every holiday. Winters were spent at Word of Life in Florida, near where Judy’s sisters live. 

Judy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dave; their children, David (Nadine), Chris, Noelle (Allan), Kimberly (Dan), and Eric (Karen); eight grandchildren, whom she adored; her siblings Janice (the late Harvey), Susan, and Wayne (Kathleen); her brother-in law Howard (Debbie); and her extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12th  at 11:30 am at the Huntington Evangelical Church located at 17 Russell Rd., Huntington, Massachusetts. Burial will follow at the Chester Center Cemetery on Skyline Trail. All are invited to a gathering at the family farm on Chester Hill following the services.
