9/10/25

On Wednesday, September 10th, Larry Mulcahy, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 92 in Sun City Center, FL after an illness of several years. Born January 17th, 1933 in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late John and Veronica (Mott) Mulcahy.

Larry received his high school diploma from Assumption Academy in Syracuse, NY, and later earned a degree from Syracuse University. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Europe as a part of containment efforts against a burgeoning Soviet threat. He was also a parishioner in the Catholic churches local to his areas of residence.

Following his service in the Army, Larry returned home and on June 13, 1959, he married Marie Sullivan of Seneca Falls, NY. They raised three children together, Larry, Kathleen, and Patrick,in Liverpool, NY.

Starting first as a lineman for the power company, ultimately Larry’s career centered on software development, first at Niagara Mohawk, and then Syracuse University where he served as a senior systems analyst until his retirement in 1990. Since the early 1950s, Syracuse University football and basketball were among his passions, and he held their national championships as treasured events.

Athletic activities included football and basketball in high school, and then running, bowling, golf, softball, hiking, racquetball, kayaking, and pickleball in his adult years. Larry also loved nature, sailing, camping, travel, snow and water skiing, and the house and property on Cayuga Lake he and Marie developed and maintained until they began snowbirding between Skaneateles, NY and Sun City Center, FL. Larry loved animals, and particularly enjoyed walking the dogs at Southeastern Guide Dogs as a volunteer. He was also something of a jazz and film aficionado. Though often more of a quiet-strength type, he could be quick with a joke that would set the room laughing at gatherings with family and friends.

Larry is predeceased by his father John and his mother Veronica. He is survived by his wife Marie (Sullivan) Mulcahy of Sun City Center, FL, his children Larry Mulcahy of Monte Vista, CO, Kathleen Mulcahy of Lakewood, CO, and Patrick Mulcahy of Liverpool, NY, his grandchildren Casey Mulcahy, of Media, PA, and Lauren Mulcahy, of Long Island City, NY, and his brother John Mulcahy (Terry McIntyre), of Liverpool, NY.

A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday, October 4th, from 9:00-10:00am at St. Mary’s of the Lake Roman Catholic Church at 10 West Austin St, Skaneateles, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am. Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Marie, I was sorry to hear of Larry's passing. May your special memories with Larry stay with you always. I was expecting to see you at the service for Larry today. Unfortunately, I came down with a bad cold after being away on a short trip to Maine.
