Michelle “Mitch” Marie Whitfield, née Greiner, 57, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026.

Born and raised in Skaneateles, New York, alongside her three older brothers, Mitch developed a lifelong love for the lake and everything that came with it. Summers were filled with swimming, tubing, waterskiing, collecting staghorns, boat rides, s’mores, and weekly trips to Skan-ellus for her favorite black aspberry ice cream. The lake was more than a place to Mitch. It was home, family, and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Of all the things Mitch loved in life, nothing compared to her daughter, Mackenzie.

Mac was her pride and joy and the center of her world. Together, they created unforgettable memories, from trips to Hawaii and Jackson Hole to outdoor glamping adventures and summers on Skaneateles Lake. They shared special traditions, including visits to the Tin Muffin in Boca Raton and walks in town for treats from the Patisserie, where Mac loved her black bottom muffin and Mitch enjoyed her Tri-berry tart. And no goodbye was complete without their sweet kisses.

Every morning before leaving for work, Mitch would stop at Mackenzie’s bedroom to give her a hug and kiss goodbye. They would always tell each other to “spread some

love,” a simple reminder that became their favorite saying.

Those words perfectly capture the way Mitch lived her life. She spread love through her kindness, her laughter, her friendships, and the countless ways she made others feel cared for. It is a legacy that will live on in Mackenzie and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Mitch graduated from Skaneateles High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Virginia Commonwealth University. A lifelong athlete and accomplished runner, she loved trail running, staying active, and challenging herself physically.

She turned that passion into a remarkable 32-year career as a personal trainer at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton. For Mitch, personal training was never just a job. She genuinely cared about her clients and took pride in helping them become stronger, healthier, and more confident. St. Andrews became her home away from home, where her clients and

colleagues became an extended family.

Mitch also treasured the lifelong friendships that began in Skaneateles and remained close to her heart throughout her life. No matter how many miles separated them or how much time passed, those friendships were a constant source of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Mitch lived a life filled with family, friends, fitness, and adventure. Her warmth, kindness, and unmistakable smile left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter, Mackenzie (Mac) Whitfield of Boca Raton; her mother, Dolores Greiner of Skaneateles; her three brothers, Robert Greiner Jr. of Amelia Island, FL, Michael Greiner (Emily) of West Salem, WI, and Eric Greiner of Skaneateles, NY; her beloved nieces and nephews, Ryan York (Alison), Grady LaJeunesse (Maya), Josie LaJeunesse, Jack and Jesse Greiner; and two grandnephews, Conrad and Vaughn York.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert Greiner Sr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her lifelong friend, whom she called her “sister”, the St. Andrews Country Club for taking care of meals, as well as her home health aides. A special thank you to all those who prayed for her, supported her, and surrounded our family with love during this difficult time. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten, and she loved all of you for being part of her life.

  A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 16, at St. Mary’s of the Lake. A reception will follow in the Parish Center, and all are welcome to attend. To view the
