William “Bill” Charles Quirk

William Charles Quirk, known simply as Bill, passed away on August 26, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 88.

Bill was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 10, 1938.  He was raised in Skaneateles, New York by his parents, Anthony and Lena (Cole) Quirk. His upbringing shaped the independence and resilience that would follow him throughout his life.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that discipline with him long after his military years. He spent many years as a volunteer fireman, quietly showing up for his community when needed.

Bill worked for the Onondaga County Highway Department before retiring and taking on a job driving a school bus for the Skaneateles School District. Those who knew him might describe him as private, stubborn, and a bit of a grump — traits he wore without apology.

For more than three decades, Bill shared companionship and adventure with Lorraine Morris, who preceded him in death in 2017. Together, they were avid members of the JAYCO Camping Club, spending countless weekends traveling, camping, and finding comfort in the quiet simplicity of camp life.

Bill spent his later years living in Elbridge, New York, where he continued to value the quiet, steady rhythms that had always grounded him. Though private by nature, he enjoyed spending time at the Millstone, sharing a drink and conversation with friends in the simple, familiar way that fit him best.

Bill is survived by his three daughters, Karen (Paul) Phillips, Lisa Jones, and Amy (Travis) Waldref; and by six grandchildren — Jaylyn, Joshua, Jordyn, Carrie, Kaelee, and Courtnee.      

Bill lived life on his own terms, and he left it the same way: quietly, privately, and with the dignity he guarded throughout his years.

Calling hour will be held on Friday, September 4th from 10 to 11 am with service to follow at 11 am at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
